  2. Windows 95 Upgrade 1.10 Release
  3. Installation Procedures
  4. February 8, 1996

  6. The NuSound PnP 32 Windows 95 Upgrade 1.10 Release includes new improvements
  7. designed to further enhance the performance of the NuSound PnP 32.  Features
  8. include:
  9.  
  10. 1.  Microsoft Direct Sound support.
  11. 2.  Enhanced Plug and Play compatibility.
  12. 3.  Plug and Play support for the Panasonic CD-ROM controller interface.
  13. 4.  Sound support in MS-DOS mode only (Exiting Windows 95 to MS-DOS Mode).
  14. 5.  Mixer (NUSDMIX.EXE) and CD Player (ORCHIDCD.EXE) operation in a DOS
  15.     environment under Windows 95.
  16.  
  17. After you have successfully installed the NuSound PnP 32 Windows 95 Upgrade
  18. 1.10, refer to SECTION 5 for instructions on configuring the NuSound PnP 32
  19. for MS-DOS mode only (exiting Windows 95 to MS-DOS Mode).
  20.  
  21. To successfully install the NuSound PnP 32 Windows 95 Upgrade 1.10 Release,
  22. it is necessary to follow the appropriate upgrade procedure for your
  23. existing system configuration and installation conditions.  Below is a
  24. description of the possible upgrade conditions:
  25.  
  26. 1.  If you are using Windows 95 and have not yet installed the NuSound PnP 32,
  27.     follow the upgrade procedures outlined in SECTION 1.
  28. 2.  If you are using Windows 95 with a previous Windows 95NuSound PnP 32
  29.     installation, follow the upgrade procedures outlined in SECTION 2.
  30. 3.  If you are using Windows 3.1 or 3.11 with a previous NuSound PnP 32
  31.     installation and are upgrading your system to Windows 95, follow the
  32.     upgrade procedures outlined in SECTION 3.
  33. 4.  If you were using Windows 3.1 or 3.11 with a previous NuSound PnP 32
  34.     installation and upgraded your system to Windows 95, follow the upgrade
  35.     procedures outline in SECTION 4.
  36.

  38. SECTION 1 - Installing NuSound PnP 32 in Windows 95 for the first time.
  39.  
  40. 1.  Follow the procedures outlined in the HARDWARE INSTALLATION section
  41.     in the NuSound PnP 32 manual.
  42. 2.  When the hardware installation of the NuSound PnP 32 is complete, turn
  43.     on the computer and press the F8 key when the message "STARTING
  44.     WINDOWS 95" appears.
  45. 3.  Select the option COMMAND PROMPT ONLY.  The system will boot to a C:>
  46.     prompt.
  47. 4.  Insert the NuSound PnP 32 Windows 95 Upgrade 1.10 disk into the floppy
  48.     drive and from the floppy drive type "NUSOUND.BAT."  This utility will
  49.     update your NuSound PnP 32 Plug and Play programming.
  50. 5.  After the NuSound PnP 32 programming is complete, type WIN.
  51. 6.  Windows 95 will automatically detect the NuSound PnP 32 and prompt you
  52.     for the disk provided my the hardware manufacturer.  Insert the NuSound
  53.     PnP 32 Windows 95 Upgrade 1.10 disk into the floppy drive and click OK.
  54.     You may be prompted to insert you Windows 95 disk for some system files.
  55.     Follow the instructions as prompted on the screen.
  56. 7.  If you have installed a Panasonic CD-ROM drive to the NuSound PnP 32,
  57.     select WINDOWS DEFAULT when prompted.  If you have not installed a
  58.     Panasonic CD-ROM drive to the NuSound PnP 32, select DO NOT INSTALL
  59.     (WINDOWS WILL NOT PROMPT YOU AGAIN).

  62. SECTION 2 - Upgrading a previous Windows 95 NuSound PnP 32 installation.
  63.  
  64. 1.  Click on the Windows 95 START button, select SETTINGS, then CONTROL PANEL.
  65. 2.  From Control Panel, double click on the SYSTEM icon.
  66. 3.  Select the tab DEVICE MANAGER.  A list of devices will appear
  67.     (make sure VIEW DEVICES BY TYPE is selected).
  68. 4.  If present, double click on the SOUND, VIDEO AND GAME CONTROLLERS device
  69.     type.  A list of devices will appear.  Remove all NuSound, CS4232,
  70.     MPU-401 compatible, and Gameport Joystick devices by selecting each
  71.     device and clicking on the REMOVE button.
  72. 5.  If present, double click on OTHER DEVICES and/or OTHER DETECTED DEVICES
  73.     type.  A list of devices will appear.  Remove all NuSound and CS4232
  74.     devices by selecting each device and clicking on the REMOVE button.
  75. 6.  If present, double click on the CD-ROM CONTROLLER device type.  A list of
  76.     devices will appear.  Remove all NuSound, CS4232, and Panasonic devices
  77.     by selecting each device and clicking on the REMOVE button.
  78. 7.  When all devices are removed, close the CONTROL PANEL by clicking on OK.
  79. 8.  Click on the Windows 95 START button, select RUN, type "SYSEDIT" in the
  80.     dialog box and click on OK.  SYSEDIT will open all Windows 95 system files.
  81. 9.  If present, remove the SET BLASTER statement and NUSDMIX.EXE device line
  82.     from the AUTOEXEC.BAT file and save.
  83. 10. If present, remove the CS4232C.EXE device line from the CONFIG.SYS file
  84.     and save.
  85. 11. Click on the Windows 95 START button, select PROGRAMS, then WINDOWS
  86.     EXPLORER.
  87. 12. From Windows Explorer, double click on the INF directory located in the
  88.     WINDOWS directory.  NOTE:  The INF directory is hidden by default.  In
  89.     order to view the directory, select VIEW, then OPTIONS from the TITLE BAR.
  90.     Select "SHOW ALL FILES"
  91. 13. Locate and open all OEM.INF files from the INF directory.
  92.     NOTE:  When a new device is added to Windows 95, an OEM.INF file
  93.     is created and stored for that device in the WINDOWS\INF directory.
  94. 14. Identify all OEM.INF file associated with the NuSound PnP 32 and delete
  95.     them from the WINDOWS\INF directory.
  96. 15. Click on the Windows 95 START button, select SHUTDOWN, then
  97.     RESTART THE COMPUTER IN MS-DOS MODE.
  98. 16. Insert the NuSound PnP 32 Windows 95 Upgrade 1.10 disk into the floppy
  99.     drive and from the floppy drive type "NUSOUND.BAT."  This utility will
  100.     update your NuSound PnP 32 Plug and Play programming.
  101. 17. Completely power down the system and then restart Windows 95.
  102. 18. Windows 95 will automatically detect the NuSound PnP 32 and prompt you
  103.     for the disk provided my the hardware manufacturer.  Insert the NuSound
  104.     PnP 32 Windows 95 Upgrade 1.10 disk into the floppy drive and click OK.
  105. 19. If you have installed a Panasonic CD-ROM drive to the NuSound PnP 32,
  106.     select WINDOWS DEFAULT when prompted.  If you have not installed a
  107.     Panasonic CD-ROM drive to the NuSound PnP 32, select DO NOT INSTALL
  108.     (WINDOWS WILL NOT PROMPT YOU AGAIN).

  111. SECTION 3 - Upgrading Windows 3.1 or 3.11 to Windows 95 with a previous
  112.             NuSound PnP 32 installation.
  113.  
  114. NOTE:  The NuSound PnP 32 Windows 3.1 and 3.11 drivers are 16-bit drivers
  115.        and though they will operate properly in Windows 95, you will want to
  116.        install the NuSound PnP 32 Windows 95 Upgrade 1.10 to take full
  117.        advantage of the plug and play capabilities and 32-bit Windows 95
  118.        NuSound PnP 32 drivers.

  120. 1.  From Windows 3.1 or 3.11, locate the NuSound PnP 32 Audio Software group.
  121. 2.  Double click on the REMOVE AUDIO DRIVERS icon.  This utility removes the
  122.     16-bit NuSound PnP 32 audio drivers from Windows.
  123. 3.  From the Program Manager, select FILE, then RUN.  Type "SYSEDIT" in the
  124.     dialog box and click on OK.  SYSEDIT will open a copy of all system files.
  125. 4.  If present, remove the SET BLASTER statement and NUSDMIX.EXE device line
  126.     from the AUTOEXEC.BAT file and save.
  127. 5.  If present, remove the CS4232C.EXE device line from the CONFIG.SYS file
  128.     and save.
  129. 6.  Exit Windows.
  130. 7.  Insert the NuSound PnP 32 Windows 95 Upgrade 1.10 disk into the floppy
  131.     drive and from the floppy drive type "NUSOUND.BAT."  This utility will
  132.     update your NuSound PnP 32 Plug and Play programming.
  133. 8.  After the NuSound PnP 32 programming is complete, restart the system with
  134.     complete power down.
  135. 9.  Start Windows and follow the procedures recommended for upgrading to 
  136.     Windows 95.
  137. 10. During the Windows 95 upgrade procedure, the installation will detect and
  138.     install the NuSound PnP 32 under OTHER DEVICES.  NOTE:  Windows 95 does
  139.     detect the NuSound PnP 32 as a plug and play device.  However, during the
  140.     installation, Windows 95 does not offer the opportunity to install the
  141.     NuSound PnP 32 Windows 95 drivers.
  142. 11. After the Windows 95 upgrade is complete, click on the Windows 95 START
  143.     button, select SETTINGS, then CONTROL PANEL.
  144. 12. From Control Panel, double click on the SYSTEM icon.
  145. 13. Select the tab DEVICE MANAGER.  A list of devices will appear
  146.     (make sure VIEW DEVICES BY TYPE is selected).
  147. 14. If present, double click on OTHER DEVICES and/or OTHER DETECTED DEVICES
  148.     type.  A list of devices will appear.  Remove all NuSound and CS4232
  149.     devices by selecting each device and clicking on the REMOVE button.
  150. 15. If present, double click on the SOUND, VIDEO AND GAME CONTROLLERS device
  151.     type.  A list of devices will appear.  Remove all NuSound, CS4232,
  152.     MPU-401 compatible, and Gameport Joystick associated devices by selecting
  153.     each device and clicking on the REMOVE button.
  154. 16. If present, double click on the CD-ROM CONTROLLER device type.  A list of
  155.     devices will appear.  Remove all NuSound, CS4232, and Panasonic devices
  156.     by selecting each device and clicking on the REMOVE button.
  157. 17. When all devices are removed, close the CONTROL PANEL by clicking on OK.
  158. 18. Click on the Windows 95 START button, select SHUTDOWN, then SHUTDOWN THE
  159.     COMPUTER and completely power down the system.
  160. 19. Restart the system and Windows 95.
  161. 20. Windows 95 will automatically detect the NuSound PnP 32 and prompt you
  162.     for the disk provided my the hardware manufacturer.  Insert the NuSound
  163.     PnP 32 Windows 95 Upgrade 1.10 disk into the floppy drive and click OK.
  164.     You may be prompted to insert your Windows 95 disk for some system files.
  165.     Follow the instructions as prompted on the screen.
  166. 21. If you have installed a Panasonic CD-ROM drive to the NuSound PnP 32,
  167.     select WINDOWS DEFAULT when prompted.  If you have not installed a
  168.     Panasonic CD-ROM drive to the NuSound PnP 32, select DO NOT INSTALL
  169.     (WINDOWS WILL NOT PROMPT YOU AGAIN).

  172. SECTION 4 - Upgrading a previous NuSound PnP 32 Windows 3.1 or 3.11
  173.             installation that was upgraded to Windows 95.
  174.  
  175. NOTE:  The NuSound PnP 32 is Plug and Play compatible with Windows 95.
  176.        However, when NuSound PnP 32 is installed in Windows 3.1 or 3.11 and
  177.        Windows is upgraded to Windows 95, the installation treats the
  178.        NuSound PnP 32 as a legacy (non-plug and play) device.
  179.  
  180.        The NuSound PnP 32 Windows 3.1 and 3.11 drivers are 16-bit drivers
  181.        and though they will operate properly in Windows 95, you will want to
  182.        install the NuSound PnP 32 Windows 95 Upgrade 1.10 to take full
  183.        advantage of the plug and play capabilities and 32-bit Windows 95
  184.        NuSound PnP 32 drivers.

  219.     Panasonic CD-ROM drive to the NuSound PnP 32, select DO NOT INSTALL
  220.     (WINDOWS WILL NOT PROMPT YOU AGAIN).

  223. SECTION 5 - Configuring the NuSound PnP 32 for MS-DOS MODE only (exiting
  224.             Windows 95 to MS-DOS Mode).
  225.  
  226. NOTE:  It is highly recommended that you run all DOS applications like games
  227.        from Windows 95.  Many manufacturers provide configuration
  228.        recommendations to successfully do this.  Consult the manufacturer for
  229.        Windows 95 configuration procedures.
  230.  
  231.        If you should need to run DOS applications in MS-DOS mode only (exiting
  232.        Windows 95 to MS-DOS Mode) with NuSound PnP 32 sound support, follow
  233.        the procedures described below:
  234.  
  235. 1.  Right click anywhere on the Windows 95 desktop.  A list of menu items
  236.     will appear.
  237. 2.  Select NEW, then SHORTCUT.
  238. 3.  Select the BROWSE button and change to the WINDOWS directory.  Locate
  239.     the file EXIT TO MSDOS and select OPEN.  This will return you to the
  240.     SHORTCUT screen with the necessary information in the COMMAND LINE
  241.     dialog box.  Click on the NEXT button.
  242. 4.  Specify a desired description for the SHORTCUT icon and click on the
  243.     FINISH button.  A MSDOS icon will appear on the desktop.
  244. 5.  Right click on the icon and select PROPERTIES.
  245. 6.  Select the PROGRAM tab and click on the ADVANCE button.
  246. 7.  Click on and select the MS-DOS mode square.
  247. 8.  Click on and select the SPECIFY A NEW MS-DOS CONFIGURATION bullet.
  248.     A list of device lines will appear in the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT
  249.     windows.  One of the device lines that will be added to the CONFIG.SYS
  250.     file is C:\WINDOWS\CS4232C.EXE /O /R.  This device line will initialize
  251.     the NuSound PnP 32 when exiting Windows 95 and starting only MS-DOS mode.
  252. 9.  Add any other necessary device drivers that will be required for
  253.     operation to the appropriate system file (Mouse, CD-ROM, etc.).
  254. 10. When modifications are complete, click on the OK button and close the
  255.     properties menu.
  256. 11. Upon launching the newly created icon, the system will restart in MS-DOS
  257.     mode and execute only the device lines contained specified.
  258. 12. For volume control, change to the Windows directory and type NUSDMIX, to
  259.     run the NuSound PnP 32 DOS Mixer Application.
